  1. Jonathat Swift was an important writer, consider as the fathe of the anarchist ideals.

His most famous work the Gulliver's Travels presents a satire of humans life or condition also makes a parody of the traveler's tales.

  2. He also invented the famous name Vanessa.Swift use that name in the title of a poem Cadenus and Vanessa(1726)in which Cadenus was an anagram that means Decanus (Dean) and Vanessa a neologism.

  3. Swift was a Dean. About his religion, he believe more in social, political and moral concrete aspects of human nature that in philosophy and theology.
Swift satire the roman catholic church in Tale of a Tub (1694-1697) .That tale is about the excess of religion and the biblical interpretation.
Personal opinion: What a wonderful writer because he satires the "powerful" and "sacred" catholic church and their interpretation about the bible.

  5. The lady dressing room. Again Swift satires the time and the entire events that happens while a lady is dressing in the room.
Five hours wrote Swift referring with that about the time that the woman spend in a room dressing. Also Swift remark how woman use beauty products.
I think that Swift with that poem that to tell us what happen while a woman is dressing in a room.

  7. By the way, do not feel offended because of my raw commentaries about the catholic church and Christianity.
I respect the believes and ideas of the others, I just share may opinion about that "rotten" institution.

  8. Jonathan Swift was a talented man, he was not only an Anglo-Irish satirist, he was also a poet, an essayist and still more important he was a Dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin in 1713. Among his works include: Tale of a Tub (1704), A Journal to Stella (1710-13), Gulliver's Travels (1726), "A Modest Proposal" (1729), "The Lady's Dressing Room" (1732); among others. Gulliver's Travels seem to be very interesting because of the way it is presented. This work has frequently been considered as an infant work; however it is a ferocious satire of society and human condition.

  9. It is fascinating to know how Christianity became the majority religion within the Roman empire with the appearance of the New Testament which shows the lives and teachings of Jesus and St. Paul. In the New Testament is presented Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. When one reads the New Testament we can realize that St. Paul dedicated his life to preaching the new faith. I think that all these testimonies were evident to convert pagans into Christianity.

  13. Personally I think The Lady's dressing room is kind of sexist, at least it portrays the efforts of poor Celia, trying to be presnetable and accepted in society. It is true that he might be criticizing the amount of time and money women spend in their appereace but remember that she was doing all that to be presentable and acceptable in a society ruled mostly by men, she was trying to please them!!

  14. “The Lady’s Dressing Room” is a satire written by Jonathan Swift in 1732, which emphasizes the time women spend in a dressing room. In this poem Swift satirizes female vanity. What I can notice is that Swift was against makeups or all those things some women use. He thought that human nature is essentially good and that those makeups are unnecessary for us.

  16. Was Constaine the author of the Catholic Church's domain? Yes.
When he was converted to Cristianity, he established the Catolic Church as the official one for the Roman Empire, he did it as a political movement in order to gain popularity. This fact, povoked the raisement of the Cristianity in the largest part of the old world, the Roman Empire.

  18. Christianity was able to transform many people´s lives….. Lots of individuals found relief and salvation for their souls and some others that lived like pagans were changed. Christianity emerged in a world divided by different religious beliefs but in spite of this, it spread and thriumped.

  19. The Lady´s Dressing Room illustrates all the things that a woman named Celia has to do in order to look beautiful and attractive in public, but the reality is that in secret she is not a big deal, she is terribly disgusting. It seems like she tries to hide her ugliness behind a mask made of make up.

  20. The poem “a description of the morning” practically is about the contemporary issues that London was facing at that time such as the increase of commerce and business and the consequences that it brought on the common people and their lifestyles.

  21. It is true that The emperor Constantine was the "Author of the Roman Catholic Church" but christianity had existed centuries before that, the first christians where people who suffered a lot because of their believes and most of them died been a spectacle in the roman circuses.

  22. A description of the morning was created and publishd in 1710. Swift wrote this text as a description of the social life in London by that time. After the acceptance of this first work, he wrote another one referring to the same topic but giving some more details and ideas about social behavior. It was called "A description of a city shower".

  23. I think that in the poem, "The Lady's Dressing Room", Swift wanted to show the reality of men and women's interaction. Actually, I prefer to think that he was not criticizing women.

  24. In my opinion cristianity's spread during Roman's fall shows that people need faith to overcome all types of problems. Cristianity was just the way to feel relieved in need.

  25. It seems Jonathan Swift was a prominent man in Irish chuch at that time, but he criticized other churches but not his own.

  26. Talking about christianity expansion, I guess it was because of commercial roman needs instead of faith. By the time of Constantine Rome's empire declination was near, so that he took the decision of made Christianity the official belief, but some authors sustain that it wasn't because of Constantine conversion but commercial interests, Roman empire needed more taxes, so that the new legal citizens had to pay them

  27. About John Swift what I can say and because it really call my attention is that he was very known for his satire rather than for his poetry. He used to write poetry and also political writings.
Swift's most famous work is Gulliver's Travels, in which the stories have a complete air of authenticy and realism that's why many people used to like them and even believe them as a real stories.

  28. The Lady's Dressing Room is another satirical poem by John Swift, in which he seems to do a parody about the time that a woman spend in a dressing room, in order to make a woman beutiful. Actully he describes the relation between women and men. I think He is not critizing the female gender if not both of them.

  31. Once John Drydan told Swift that he was never going to bea poet. However, he wrote great works such as A Tale of a Tub (Between 1696 and 1699)and The Battle of the Books (1697). Even though he was a man of religion, he showed some difference from the rest, Swift went for the controversie. Swift belonged to the The Scriblerus Club, where other personalities were joined, the club was founded in 1714.

  32. I believe Rome's Empire had reached the edge of its reign. So, its tradition was fading as well as it did its laws. Therefore, the rise of christiany seemed to be unstopable. And also, it appears to be caused by politic and the economic problems the empire was facing at the end.

  33. Was Jonathan Swift married and then he became a priest? that is something unusual if we take into account his period of time. Isn't that ironic?
I didn't know he wrote Gulliver's travels when I used to watch it on TV years ago; It was one of my favorite cartoons. I also didn't realize that the plot was a satiric for society.
I found that Swift had several facets in his work life; but at the end of his life he suffered deafness and got insane.

  34. It appears to be that in a A Description of the Morning, Swift describes a typical morning in London. But is not so plain as as we may beleive. The poem describes the working conditions of people and some escenes of workers that labour from day to day. And that in some cases they even create more work for each other.

  36. Christianity is one of the most influencial religious movements that started after the death of Jesus and gradually became an threat for the Roman Emprire, so the Christians were chased through the time until the Emperor Constantine decided to convert himself and obiously the whole Empire to Christianism.

  37. Since that moment the Christianity gained importance and became "the most powerful" creed and military force ruling the world for almost 1000 years. In my humble opinion it is like contradictory because first the Christianism was kind of a "slave and thief ", but then becomes in the "master" dominating other creeds and religious thoughts with an iron fist.

  41. one thing that catched my atention was that cristianity wasn't the religion by default, it was constantine's tendency that mde this event to occur, this religion became what it is thanks to the fact that it was a chaos when it appeared and it gave sort of a feeling of joy to the people that knew about it, one question comes to my mind and don't think that I am a heretic or something like that, could be this the reason why the roman empire disapeared?

  42. in the lady's dressing room I detect a lot of feelings that invade swift's like angryness, tenderness and even compasion... (samuel)

  43. It amazed me how swift's caugh the scense of a tipical morning in the city, with his unique touch he tells different events that happens in a tipical day, of course moking almost in all the situations. (samuel)

  44. In "A description of the morning" Swift shows a negative attitude toward the daily life in London. It seems that in XVIII centiry was a complete social disorder.

  45. Something curious that I found about Swift is that he used to change the names of his pupils.
He named Stella his pupil Esther Johnson (some scholars believe that they got married in secret) and Esther Vanhomrigh was named Vanessa ( she was in love with Swift but he never accepted her feelings)

  46. Jonathan Swift. The work unquestionably assured Swift's literary fame was his novel Gulliver's Travels (1726), imaginative and pessimistic satire of society which would, interestingly, a successful children's literature. The discovery by the protagonist of imaginary countries, composed of tiny beings example (Lilliput) or giant (Brobdingnag), allows the author to launch a sharp and merciless satire on politics and social relations of his time, a tone negative bordering on misanthropy.
